Great expectations
I’ve realised that the standards I hold the men of today to are probably too high.
This said, the male role model for many girls is their father. I am no different. I respect and look up to my father, who as the more I get to know men, is seemingly one of a very rare kind. He has worked his entire life to provide for his family and even after divorce remained amicable and generous.
Post break up, these are the things that I want my exes to live up to. I want some level of friendship and care to be upheld so that the entire relationship does not turn into a bitter waste of time. Not too much to ask for.
However, such gentlemanly conduct from modern men, is perhaps just that.
I take it to heart when an ex refuses to be friendly, most probably because I know my father would never do that. And to be frank, I think less of a man who is too cowardly and immature to remain friends; who thinks only of his own emotions and likes to play games.
Because he’s not a man, he’s still a boy. My mistake.
